The Corny AF Old Fashioned

The Corny AF Old Fashioned is a playful yet refined bourbon cocktail modeled on an Old Fashioned that was being served at Atlanta’s Fox Theater during the performance of the hit Broadway musical, “Shucked.” I might have had more than one prior to the performance; regardless, the show was great, and the Old Fashioned was memorable enough for me to want to try it at home.

The Corny AF features Shucked™ Straight Bourbon Whiskey (“The Bourbon of Broadway™”), which is a high-corn bourbon; Nixta Licor de Elote corn liqueur, and Bitter Ex “I Will Survive” Citrus Bitters. It’s garnished with a buttery popcorn skewer and an aromatic orange twist, making it both edible and aromatic. This riff on the Old Fashioned, much like the show that inspired it, celebrates corn in all its glory, combining nostalgic flavors with bold whiskey character. It’s perfect for fall entertaining or anyone looking for a unique take on a classic bourbon drink.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces 2 Shucked™ Bourbon

  • .5 ounce .5 Nixta Licor de Elote

  • 3 dashes 3 Bitter Ex “I Will Survive” Citrus Bitters

  • Buttered popcorn for garnish

  • Orange peel for garnish

Directions

  • Add bourbon, liqueur, and bitters to a mixing glass with ice
  • Stir for 20 seconds
  • Strain into glass over a large ice sphere
  • Express orange peel over drink, add to glass
  • Skewer 3-4 pieces of fresh buttered popcorn and place on top of glass

Notes

  • If fresh buttered popcorn is too much of a pain in the butt to deal with just to get 3-4 pieces for a drink, buy a small bag of SmartFood White Cheddar popcorn, and use a few pieces of that. Eat the rest of the bag – you won’t regret it.

Hi! I’m Bob!

If it’s got bourbon in it, I’m drinking it. And if it’s really good, I’m gonna figure out how to make it, and share it with you. Because I’m good like that.
